What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
This is the sequel to my book Make Believe. In this one, I wanted to delve mostly into the life of an artist- the male main character- and uncover the mystery surrounding his real parentage. He follows his love interest, Amelia, to Paris where things finally become clear. As a writer, I loved telling his story of ultimate acceptance after a life of being ignored and ridiculed. I also loved using my imagination to create nightlife scenes in Paris. Also, as a professional artist for many years, I loved writing about talented characters who devote their lives to their art.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
We met the main characters of this book in Book One, Make Believe, as secondary players. While I focused on Lily, I needed her to have loving, supportive siblings, so I came up with Molly and David. It was then I fell head over heels in love with David and knew I had to tell his story. He has a complex personality due to his strange upbringing, and he is incredibly talented. Amelia shows up late in Make Believe as the perfect woman for him, even though he's not ready to accept that yet. Amelia is a lovable, talented young woman who can break through his barriers. She is just what he needs. And then, I had to throw in some conflict, so I created Marcel. He was SO much fun to write about. Handsome, smart, successful and totally full of himself.

If Amelia hadn’t been so tipsy, she wouldn’t have had the nerve, but she was… so she used her dancer’s anatomy as inspiration and painted an elephant’s head on his stomach. When the dancer looked down and saw his “trunk,” he burst out laughing. When he told her to “go ahead and paint it,” Amelia selected a wide brush to apply some blue paint down his length. Never in her life would she have imagined she could do such a thing to a stranger. She was used to scantily clad models, but so far she’d never been expected to actually colorize a dick! She got the giggles when his “trunk” started to grow as she applied the paint. The dancer just looked at her and shrugged with a wink and a grin.
Soon the drummer announced they had one minute left. Amelia sped up her work and finished just as attendants came around and took away their smocks, paints, and brushes. The artists were all directed to stand back against the wall.
The bright overhead lights went out then, and Amelia gasped at the sight before them. They had been painting with glow-in-the-dark paint that was made for blacklight. The dancers positioned themselves in the center of the room, and the drum started up again. It started out like a heartbeat and quickly picked up speed with a more complicated rhythm. The dancers all leapt and spun and cavorted around in a stunning spectacle of glowing colors. Amelia cracked up when she saw her elephant dance by with his “trunk” swinging.
As the room grew hot from their exertions, the dancers began to sweat. Some of the paint ran, and some that had dried seemed to begin peeling off a little. At that point, the dancers began to rub up against each other. Paints smeared and blended together, and the careful designs the artists had created began to blur. The drumbeat pounded on and on, faster and faster. It was hard to stand still with the pulsating beat pounding away, so most of the artists also began swaying and nodding.
One of the male dancers approached the bare wall opposite the artists and wiped his body on it. Then, one by one, the other dancers did the same, each leaving a strange impression next to the previous one. After grinding their bodies against the wall, each dancer leapt and twirled back to the center of the room and lay on the floor. Each dancer joined in until all of the dancers were lying on the floor with their arms and legs interlaced. They continued to writhe around to the beat of the drums from their prone positions. The pulsating rhythm was erotic and strange. Amelia felt it as much as she heard it.
Abruptly, the drummers made one loud thwack in unison and then stopped, and the dancers immediately stilled their bodies. After so much noise, color, and motion, the silence and the stillness were jarring. And it was also beautiful.
