What Inspired You to Write Your Book?
A strong interest in Boston history and my own grandfather’s personal experience in emigrating to Boston in 1914 formed the impetus to build this story about family ties in challenging times. During the decades covered in the story, Boston was rife with larger-than-life personalities from politicians to gangsters and filled momentous events that impact the characters.
How Did You Come up With Your Characters?
I wanted character that represented the diversity of paths chosen by Italian immigrants of the time. From anarchists and gangsters to ordinary workers and politicians, the characters represent a colorful tapestry of life in Boston’s Italian North End.
